Freedom is something we should celebrate every day, but 4th of July week, it’s time to whip out the colors of the grand old flag and let your table shine in patriotic glory.
These berry, Greek yogurt and almond partfaits provide a smooth taste of summer and can be served for breakfast, snack, or dessert. If the Greek yogurt is too tart for your taste, add a little honey or sweetener, a dash of vanilla, or use vanilla yogurt instead. Choose a small glass (or clear plastic!) container and layer, layer, layer. Don’t forget a mint leaf! This version was made with strawberries. The one higher on the page used blueberries. Blackberries, raspberries. You choose!
This is my idea of a classic meal for the 4th of July. Tomatoes and basil, straight from the garden, dressed up with fresh mozzarella, cut into shapes, drizzled with vinaigrette. Country-style barbecued ribs. Cucumber sandwiches. Spinach salad. Macaroni and cheese. Cucumbers and Onions.
Here’s another view. Note the we added some carmelized onion and some confetti-chopped colored peppers to the macaroni and cheese.
Bake your favorite cake. After it cools, ice it with a mixture of cream cheese and whipped cream. (Add a little sweetener of your choice, if you need to.) Have a blast arranging berries on top. If you make cupcakes instead, you can cater to those who are purists and like a single type of berry, as well as those who wish to have a blend.
Michele bought a big package of these clear plastic dessert-sized containers. How cute are they?!? We took raspberries and blueberries and layered them with whipped cream squirted between the layers. (Plan ahead. Most guests will be too shy to ask, but they’ll really want two. If you have them already made, they will be so happy!)
The possibilities for your table are endless. I put a small patriotic quilt down as a tablecloth, then tried several options on top. This shows a white plate on bottom, cobalt blue glass plate and stemmed goblet, with a red bowl on top.
These plates come in two designs. This one has the Declaration of Independence. I paired it with a red charger plate, glass, and bowl and added a star-shaped napkin ring.
The polka dot plates and individual casserole dishes are versatile enough to go from Christmas to Valentines Day to 4th of July, or look great any day of the week. When paired with just the right shade of blue and a bit of white, they put fireworks on your table!
