Is there anything that screams summer fun louder than a big juicy hamburger cooked on the grill? Not at my house!
Ingredients:
- Buns (I get my low carb ones online from Low Carb Connoisseur — order a boatload at a time and fill my freezer with them. They’re also what I make low carb croutons and bread crumbs from.)
- Ground beef
- Ground pork (optional — I like to mix half beef, half pork)
- Steak Dust or other beef seasoning
- Chopped onion
- Country-style dijon mustard
- Eggs
- Bread crumbs
- Balsamic vinegar
- Your favorite hamburger toppings.
Directions:
Start your grill. By the time it’s hot, you will have your burgers ready to cook.
Place your ground beef (and ground pork, if you’re using any) into a large bowl. Add your Steak Dust or similar seasoning and your chopped onion.
Throw in some bread crumbs, country dijon mustard, and a couple of eggs.
Add just a bit of balsamic vinegar. Not too much — it can burn. Mix well, then form into big patties. Don’t forget to make an indentation in the top of each patty with your thumb to prevent the meat from doming up. Cook to your desired degree of doneness.
I mix together mayo, a little Splenda, and some sugar-free barbecue sauce to smear on the inside of the bun. That, and a litte onion, and I’m ecstatic. Michael won’t let mayo near his. Celebrate your own unique twist on the great American burger.
