This tablesetting looks elegant and expensive, but I’ll let you in on a secret. I picked up the plates for under $5.00 each and the mugs were $3.99!
I love the visual harmony of this table. I set it with navy napkins first, and it seemed like something was missing. When I grabbed the fuschia napkins to match the orchid blooms, it transformed the table.
Did you notice my “napkin rings”? I had some ribbon from the fabric store that I used to tie around the napkins. The toille print of the ribbon doesn’t precisely match the design of the plates, but it doesn’t matter. It’s close enough to pull off the look I wanted.
This is the inspiration for the entire tablescape. I’m going to use it as the centerpiece for a variety of different tablescapes and see what works best.
I have always like to pair yellow with blue. My grandmother had an amazing bedroom all done in blue and yellow and it seemd to feel sunny, regardless of what the actual weather was.
Layering plates allows you to use multiple colors, all in the same place setting. The bottom plate can act like a charger, and the top plate can hold the salad course. Beware, however, if you are serving something that’s going to require those eating to do a lot with a knife, layered plates aren’t a good choice. Too much jiggling going on.
I also layered our napkins — yellow napkin inside, blue and white wrapped around it. I’m free to serve something truly messy now!
I found this unusual orchid plant in full bloom at my local farmer’s market and could not resist it. The lady slipper orchid is exquisite. The shape of this cachepot and its design complement the orchid well. The nice thing is that, unlike cut flowers, this will look fabulous for another month with just a tiny bit of water once a week.
