When you’re on the road, you’ll find menus that are chock full of offerings that are not the most healthful, but sometimes all you have to do is ask to obtain a better alternative. Having breakfast at the Trump Hotel in Honolulu, I spotted a smoothie bar. At my request, the smoothie expert whipped up a raspberry smoothie with Splenda and unsweetened soy milk. The addition of a lime green orchid blossom as garnish truly made this pretty food, and it tasted fab, too.
This is an excellent choice for road food. It’s a simple salad of mixed greens with shrimp and a Thai lemon grass dressing.
Salad Nicoise — Hawaiian style! No canned tuna here. This is fresh ahi tuna on this beautiful salad.
Everywhere you look in Hawaii, there are photo pops. This lotus flower made me smile.
One morning, I was up at 3:15 a.m. to work on my compliance presentation. I sat outside on the balcony in a cozy robe, working on my iPad and wireless keyboard, using a second iPad as the equivalent of a second monitor. A full moon reflected off the ocean water, and the palm trees looked glorious in the early morning light. I enjoyed coming back that evening and working on the balcony again as the sun set and the sky put on a show.
Walking on the beach at dawn certainly didn’t feel like exercise. It felt like an incredible opportunity to commune with nature.
I chase sunrises and sunsets wherever I go. This wasn’t terribly dramatic, but it was still satisfying.
