It is hot. So hot. July has never been my favorite month of the year because I’m not a hot weather person. The old expression “can’t take the heat” fits me to a “T.”
It’s not all bad, however. Fresh fruits and vegetables are plentiful and inexpensive. In the old days, people also had a little more leisure time in the summer months to get together and relax over a nice meal. I don’t know what happened, but it seems the pace of life has sped up dramatically. That’s why it’s so important to just take some time for a great meal with friends and family.
Your kitchen may be cramped, but there’s plenty of room outdoors for your guests to sit and shoot the breeze while you show your grill skills.
When you think of July, you can’t help but think of outdoor cooking. Whether grilling or smoking, food on the fire is the way to go. Keep the heat out of the kitchen. Pour a cool drink, and cook food with flavor that screams “SUMMER!”
Here are some of my favorites, just to give you a little inspiration:
- Chicken ala Michael (of course I’m a bit partial to this…)
- Grilled Beef on Skewers
- Grilled Glazed Salmon
- Grilled Pork Chops
- Tenderloin Stuffed Sausage
