Oh, I had FUN with this one! This year in the stores, they are selling props for selfies. We have had so much fun in the past persuading our guests to put on fun hats, glasses, aprons, and the like, so the idea of festooning the place settings with selfie props appealed to me enormously. This particularly sparkly Santa table setting also gets a big boost from blue jeweled battery-operated LED lights. Those were the final touch that helped me believe in Santa Clause once more.
So, what do we have here? There are three plates: a white dinner plate, a white salad plate, and a beautiful turquoise bread and butter plate. The three plates are arranged to look like a figure of a person with a jaunty hat on top. The gold flatware takes the place of arms. A seasonally-appropriate cocktail napkin flows at the neck like a winter scarf. The cloth dinner napkin is folded to look like it is the brim of the hat (the small turqnoise plate).
Another napkin (white and gold print) is slim folded to go down the front of Santa’s “body.”
I placed a sparkly placemat underneath and oriented it vertically. Then there is a chocolate bon-bon serving as the nose, and there is a little lamb looking over the top of the head. (It’s for no apparent reason, he was just awfully cute and just the right color, so why not!?!?
I chose gold flatware for the “arms” because the placemat had golden threads wove through it, as did the white and gold dotted dinner napkin and the exotic embroidered cocktail napkin.
Last, but not least, came the two selfie props — a Santa beard on a stick and a set of glasses, also on a stick. I was very, very pleased with the outcome. And when it’s time to eat, the napkins get pulled off to use, the selfie prop get temporarily set to the side to await their use as a frivolous ingredient to the after party you will want to have!
