You know, it’s all about that bling, ’bout that bling, on the table. With kudos to Meghan Trainor for writing a song that can be modified to be the anthem for just about anything, I found myself singing the catchy tune with my bling-related lyrics as I turned up the glitz for a totally non-traditional blingy Christmas table. Plus, Michele told me that next year’s Pantone colors are a shade of pink and a shade of blue, so this is my homage to the color czar’s latest decree (although the shades used here are certainly far prettier than the namby-pamby ones chosen by the Pantone folks. Just my opinion.)
There is so much going on here that I need to break it down for you. At each place setting there is a clear, faceted goblet, a little individual cake stand (which will come into play later in the meal), a tailored, metallic-threaded placemat, sterling silver flatware, an ivory-colored wood charger, topped by a wild pink glass dinner plate, blue napkin, and beaded napkin ring (in silver and blue). The blue almost has aqua overtones in the napkin, napkin ring, and other elements on the table. A quirky little cocktail napkin with funny Christmas creatures in little round circles sits under the goblet. With me so far?
In the center of the table, on a blue platter is a glittery blue tree, flanked by little gnomes or elves and assorted Christmas balls in silver, pink, blue, frosted and reflective, with a few glittery ones thrown in for good measure.
A strand of blue, battery-operated LED lights runs helter skelter down the table, joined by blue and fuschia sheep, ribbon, lucite and gold boxes, and various glass and crystal candle holders. I may or may not end up putting candles into the holders. If I do, I’d like to find some silver metallic tapers, if possible.
The glass bread basket (hot pink, shaped sort of like a love knot) will welcome bread or rolls. The cool, fold-down ivory snowflake tiered serving platter was a gift from my friend Lea Ann. She gave it to me in August. I’ve patiently waited for months to put it to use!
This bling Christmas table looks particularly good at night. I tried to position as many of the reflective balls near the little lights as possible to amp up the glow.
So, now you know. It’s all about that bling. Sing it, baby!
