If you’re eating outdoors this summer, invest in some picnic covers. These nifty little things (which you can get in a variety of colors and designs) help you ensure you and your invited guests are the only ones feasting on your food. Of course, the downside is that I’m sure fanning the platter with your hands and arms (which is what one would do to keep away flies without these nifty covers) probably helps reduce the batwing upper arm problem, but you can feel free to substitute arm flapping during your TV watching and calmly enjoy your outdoor meals.
These picnic covers come in foldable and collapsible versions, too. One thing to keep in mind — you need to select the right size for the plates and platters you’ll be using. What I used above fits perfectly over a normal dinner plate. I have larger versions that work well for platters. It doesn’t do much good if you only have partial coverage.
Here is an example of one of the really large mesh covers. As you can see, it covers several dishes at once: Mesh Plate Covers.
