Those of you that know me well know that I have never been a fan of plastic plates. My thought has always been that plates are the easiest thing in the world to wash or throw in the dishwasher, so why use a disposable version? Recently, however, when visiting Michele, I admired some of the dishes she had laid out for a meal and was astonished to learn a day later, that they were plastic! Looking at them did not tip me off at all. Neither did eating off them. This new generation of plastic tableware is worth investigating. It’s not your momma’s melmac!
Just because you’re using plastic plates doesn’t mean you can’t set a beautiful table. I layered a couple of colors of straw placemats, put some flowers into my moss purse, and got out coordinating napkins and glasses. It was quite attractive.
The nice thing about using plastic plates for outdoor dining is they weigh almost nothing. These were some I purchased at World Market Explorer. They even had coordinating flatware. No, the flatware is NOT plastic — just the handles. Carrying the plastic plates in and out was a breeze. So, eating on plastic? You betcha, when it’s this pretty!
