The placemats whisper “Summer” in my ear. I rarely use translucent bowls or plates during the winter, but in the summer, the way the light shines through them is so appealing.
At first, I set the green glass plates right on top of the placemat. Nope, that didn’t work. There needed to be something solid – and light-colored – underneath the green glass to make the color really pop. I chose the slightly off-white plates. They provide the visual equivalent of matting around the smaller green plate.
Mixing and matching is okay, you know. The placemats had a rattan/bamboo design down the sides, so I chose a bamboo pattern flatware. The alstromeria lilies played off the lilies in the placemat pattern, and the pale pink napkins with hot pink orchid napkin rings from Michele complete the look. Now, where’s the food?!?
