You know me. I love to cook. Nothing makes me more happy than spending time in my kitchen. I will endlessly cook lunches, dinners. I’ll make snacks, construct party food, and smile the whole way. Preparing breakfast for company, however, is my least favorite culinary chore. Ironic, isn’t it, since I consider breakfast the most important meal of the day. What’s a non-morning person to do? Get takeout!
While I call myself a non-morning person, I’m actually up early (very early) every day. That means I’m usually up for a couple of hours before my guests start stirring. Perfect! That gives me tons of time to send Michael out to a local eatery for nutritious a.m. carryout. I then prepare a tray, plate everything up, and keep it warm until my company is ready to be served.
Doesn’t it look restful? In our lime green guest bedroom, the windows face east, so the morning sun comes streaming in. It’s a great way to greet the day.
The other benefit of getting takeout for my guests for breakfast is that I don’t have to make food that is not low carb. I just buy it. The last thing I need haunting me is an entire batch of blueberry muffins or a loaf of regular bread. Orange juice is the kind of sugary drink I don’t touch. I was able to order this meal just this way, with one exception. I bought the strawberry yogurt and “dressed it up” a bit. I put a little honey in the bottom of a champagne glass, added the yogurt nearly to the top of the glass, sprinkled on oats mixed with walnuts, and garnished with a slice of strawberry and a sprig of mint. The iced tea spoon insured my friend would be able to access the bottom of the glass.
