When I close my eyes and think of Mexican food, I envision colorful ceramics and serapes. Bold, happy colors that make me want to throw my arms over my head, clap my hands, and shout “Ole!” You too, huh? For carryout Mexican cuisine, I break out colorful Fiesta dishes and brightly colored placemats and napkins. There would be a major disconnect if I used the Chinese plates with Mexican food. Consistency and appropriateness is important. Your table setting can convey theme and set a mood. This works well for a casual dinner (we had barbecue and Fried Okra Salad) or a Mexican Fiesta.
The same dishes and placemats lend themselves well to Mexican food, which is also casual.
In the picture above, a group of my banking women friends had converged on my house from all over the country. Here, the early arrivals are getting into party mode for the weekend with margaritas and a Mexican feast. Note how the placemats and napkins in the previous picture create the theme much better than the bare table. Details count!
