The dish you place your food in or on can make a big difference in the visual impact it makes. I made my Chicken Apple & Walnut Salad on two different occasions and plated them in ways that illustrate the difference.
The picture on the right doesn’t look bad, but it’s not very exciting looking. If I had used red apple, rather than granny smith, there would have been a pop of color. The pale green of the bowl doesn’t enhance the salad. The walnuts are nice from the standpoint that they give you a clue about one of the ingredients, but overall the look is ho hum.
In the picture at the left, the chicken salad gets a boost from the colorful plate. The tiny chopped Craisin pieces add the final touch.
Same food, two ways. Which one would you gravitate to?
