Think About the Plate or Bowl

The dish you place your food in or on can make a big difference in the visual impact it makes. I made my Chicken Apple & Walnut Salad on two different occasions and plated them in ways that illustrate the difference.

Chicken Salad on Blue PlateThe picture on the right doesn’t look bad, but it’s not very exciting looking. If I had used red apple, rather than granny smith, there would have been a pop of color. The pale green of the bowl doesn’t enhance the salad. The walnuts are nice from the standpoint that they give you a clue about one of the ingredients, but overall the look is ho hum.

Chicken Salad on Blue PlateIn the picture at the left, the chicken salad gets a boost from the colorful plate. The tiny chopped Craisin pieces add the final touch.
