Peek in my closet and you won’t find a plaid garment, but I love plaid on the table, bringing the colors of the Christmas season together.
These placemats provide a nice backdrop for white plates, in particular. Candles, flowers, Christmas flatware all work together in harmony. (And don’t you love the white and green ornamental kale “roses” with the red roses in the bouquet?)
How tiresome it would be if every meal was fancy and elegant. I’m sure even the Queen enjoys the variety of mixing simple with over-the-top. It’s the contrast that makes us appreciate each one. This table is unfussy and straightforward. Admittedly, it would be more so if we had foregone the kicky little appetizer plates that we had out for the chips, but they added a little whimsy to the table.
On this particular evening, we wanted just a bit to eat because we had consumed a large meal at lunch and therefore weren’t particularly hungry. A fabulous salad and some baked tortilla wedges (with dip for those who desired it) provided all we needed before drifting off for sweet dreams.
Yes, indeed. Plaid for Christmas, or in the month leading up to it, is just right!
