Takeout Tricks for Lunch in a Flash

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Oh my!

“Eeek! Unexpected HUNGRY company!”

We ended up with seven people for lunch unexpectedly yesterday. We ran to the grocery store deli, then popped everything into bowls and had a great lunch very quickly, but I was really on the spot!

The key here is that the containers were discarded before we called everyone for lunch. We got a variety of items (hedging our bets, in case something turned out to be awful, there were backups) and we chose a consistent color theme. Since it was a gorgeous spring day, we used a selection of flower-shaped bowls. The meat loaves looked much better after they were dressed with basil, as did the tabouli, and the roasted chicken benefitted from a couple of chives in bloom. It may not have been homemade (and I didn’t try to pass it off as such), but it looked like it was and I’m certain that enhanced the taste!
