Around here, we celebrate “birthday month.” Why limit yourself to a single day to celebrate another trip around the sun? You and your loved ones deserve more. Anniversaries, engagements, baby births. Random Tuesdays. There are sooo many good reasons to party.
It was a hectic Saturday, with tons of errands to be run, but I had dangled the prospect of cooking lobster for my friend Deloris for her birthday and I needed to deliver. She and Michael settled in to watch a movie while I puttered in the kitchen, serving occasional snacks to keep the two of them from getting peckish. I think it was nearly 10:00 before we sat down to eat dinner, but it was worth the wait for this elegant and healthy meal. Deloris is an artist, so she particularly appreciated the bold, colorful tablesetting. Cousin Becky had recently given me the birthday cake-shaped platter, so I put it to good use.
Since we were having cake pops for dessert, my dilemma was wear to stick the obligatory birthday candles. The floral centerpiece worked well for that task. Here are a couple more pictures that show the flaming flower bouquet. Had I put the correct number of candles in, I might have needed some sort of permit from the Fire Marshall.
Just as festive as a cake with candles, but without all the carbs!
